Homework for Monday, July 23

You must bring a story or a poem from your creative writing class. We will be using InDesign to manipulate the text over a photo you choose for a background. This will be our final project, due at the end of class on the 25th. It might be helpful to find a photograph or two that relate somehow to the visual imagery you imagine in your story.

Be sure you saved your GIF using "save optimized as" in Adobe ImageReady CS.

You must also have a Photobucket account.

Upload the optimized Animated GIF file to your Photobucket account.

Create a new post on your blog page and select the image icon. Copy and paste the url code version of your animated gif file from photobucket to the html link in the add image window on your blog.

You must have one of your gif's posted by the end of class on Wednesday, July 18. The other gif must be finished and posted by class time on Monday, July 23.

Animated GIF's: The Next Project

This is a very simple example of an animated GIF file (click on the image to view it). Your assignment will be to make two types of animations. One will require you to use simple symbols such as those used in this example (though yours will be more involved). The other animation will require you to use pictures and other imagery which you will also animate frame by frame. I will explain the process in class on the 11th.

Digital Artists

One good way to make interesting art is to check out what other artists are doing. You might be surprised about some really good ideas you can borrow and make your own that you might not have thought about before.

Cory Arcangel uses pop music and Nintendo games to create digital art.

This is one of Cory's pieces based on Super Mario Bros. This one is based on a car racing game.

Other digital artist Like Marisa Olson and Abe Linkoln did a project together called Abe and MO Sing the Blogs.

Joel Swanson developed a story called Fat Simon. (You will probably have to allow pop-up windows for this to work. If you don't get a prompt asking you to allow pop-ups, click on the name of your browser (Firefox) then Preferences, then under the Content tab uncheck "block pop-up windows").

Take some time and explore the site Techne Studio. You also need to explore the Whitney Artport site. Your homework for Wednesday July 11 is to look at the art on these sites and post a blog entry describing why you like or dislike the digital art you see and create a link to something specific you responded to.

Homework for July 9 class

1. Finish your Photoshop self-portrait! This includes posting it to your blog (and making certain that you have sent me the link to your blog - There are 7 of you who have not done this).

2. Go to photobucket and get an account if you don't already have one. You will need this account in order to post the next project we make in class.

These two things are to be completed before we meet again on Monday the 9th. If you have seen this posting, get the word out to everyone in your class so no one is left behind.
